Once upon a time, there lived a beautiful girl named Chawngmawii. She secretly loved a handsome young man called Hrangchhuana, who belonged to a neighboring village that was at war with her own. Although their villages were enemies, their love was deep and sincere. Hrangchhuana often risked his life to visit Chawngmawii at night, even though travelling between hostile villages was very dangerous.
When the villagers discovered that an enemy was secretly entering their village, they set a trap to catch him. For a long time, Hrangchhuana escaped, but eventually he was caught. The village chief ordered him to be tied up on the road and made all the girls walk over him to expose the traitor. When Chawngmawii’s turn came, she covered his face with her shawl and wept, revealing her love.
The villagers were furious. Hrangchhuana was tortured and beheaded, and his head was displayed on a tree. Despite the danger, Chawngmawii bravely took his head to his parents, fulfilling his last wish. Though his parents were grateful, her own villagers killed her for her loyalty. Folklore says their souls became the stars Venus and Jupiter, meeting in the sky as symbols of eternal love.
