Mix & Match is an elaborate cultural dance spectacle and multimedia production that intricately narrates the diverse and rich history of Indian sarees and textiles. Serving as a vibrant reflection of India’s cultural mosaic, this production highlights how the saree, while showcasing the distinctive artistic features of its state of origin, ultimately draws from the common, unifying cultural fabric of Bharat. Performed by the artists using the unity & diversity of the sarees of different states.

Production Overview: This cultural extravaganza seamlessly integrates Indian Classical Dance with the visual artistry of textile & sarees, weaving together a plethora of traditions, folklore, and regional narratives.

Divided into 4 segments- Depicting the Sarees and Textiles of all the states

Segment-1:- North & Central India (Varanasi,Lucknow,Punjab,Chattishgarh)

Segment-2:- South India(  Karnataka,Andra Pradesh, Telengana, Tamil Nadu)

Segment-3 :- East & North East of India( West Bengal,Odisha, Bihar, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Manipur)

Segment-4:- West& North West of India ( Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Rajastan)

Director :

Jayalakshmi Eshwar is an internationally acclaimed Bharatanatyam exponent of par excellence- an excellent performer, choreographer, teacher, and author, with her experience spanning more than 5 decades. She is known for her innovative concepts and ability to effortlessly progress an ancient dance form into future performance contexts, without compromising its syntax and semantics. Her in-depth and meticulous training under the aegis of Kalakshetra, Chennai under her mentor  Late  Smt. Rukmini Devi Arundale (Padma Bhushan) , has made her style innovative yet traditional.

She is an empanelled artist-as Outstanding –ICCR & Ministry Of Culture  and Top Grade of Doordarshan Kendra , Delhi . She is the Head, Bharatanatyam Section, at Triveni Kala Sangam,Delhi  and Abhinayaa Dance Group.  Besides Bharatanatyam, Jayalakshmi has professional training in Kuchipudi, Odissi, and Seraikela Chhau. She has also enacted as a Tanjore Dancer in the National Award Winning classical Kannada film “HamsaGeethe” by the Late G.V.Iyer.  She has conceptualised and presented numerous innovative thematic dance productions both in India and abroad, on stage and Television.

Her recent productions as a Choreographer, Performer & Artistic Director  are , “Symphony of Madhyapradesh” A MULTIMEDIA PRODUCTION  organized by the Department of culture for MadhyPradesh Mahotsav (Dec 2024 and AND  Jan 2025)  ,  a multimedia production Titled “Mix & Match (‘मिश्रणं & मेलनम्) – (Feb ,2024 , Delhi) . was a  Tribute to the weavers ,   that exhibits India’s cultural heritage through the heritage of Saris and textile across all regions of (BHARAT) .(Pragati Sheel Bharat)for PBD-2023 on January  , 2023 at Indore organized by ICCR, Ministry of Culture, NewDelhi.  Director for  the production-“

Her most internationally acclaimed contribution to Bharatanatyam are her 4 instructional books- Bharatanatyam How To, HasthaPrayoga, PaadhaBhedhah and NrithyaVidhya supported by audio and video DVDs and an unique educational Card Game based on all the classical dance forms.  She has trained and presented hearing impaired children in 5 productions for SUNIYE, a NGO in Delhi. She is the recipient of the Senior Fellowship Award from Sangeet Natak Akademi(2003-05) and Sangeet Natak Akademi (Puraskar) for the year 2021. She has been conferred by The Dance India Magazine “Golden Ghungroo Award “2024 and SUTTA” THE WOMEN ACHIEVER AWARD”from WORDLOOM organization Gurugram Hariyana, 2025

Director’s Note

(Multi Media dance production – Mix & Match ( मिश्रणं एवम् मेलनम्))- Textiles -Sarees of India) is a tribute to the weavers of India highlighting the sarees of all the states of India combining language, history and culture of each state in terms of lyrics and  music, dancing with the sarees of different regions of each state within the idiom of classisum. Dance technique combines Bharatanatyam, Chhau and folklore of each region. The vibrant professionally recorded musical score & voice over narration, along with visuals at the background, have been professionally  recorded  and merged together bringing out the aesthetics of the production. The complete production is without intermission.

Group :

Abhinaya group of Jayalakshmi Eshwar(SNA Awardee) has performed both in India and abroad the traditional presentations as well as concept based productions & conducted workshops. It is part of Abhinayaa Centre, New Delhi. The Centre was started in 1990 in  Delhi (wholly owned) by Ms. Jayalakshmi Eshwar (SNA Awardee), an interntionally renowned Bharatanatyam Exponent, Choreographer, Author and Teacher. (an alumnai of Kalakshetra, Chennai  of Late Padma Bhushan Smt. Rukmini Devi Arundale ). The main objective of the center is to propagate Indian Culture to both Indian and Foreign students. It is a forum for budding as well as professional and amateur artists to learn the finer aspects of Bharatanatyam dance and bring forth their talents and many other learning experiences connected with culture.
