FLESH

In this reimagined Macbeth, ambition roars on two wheels as both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are played by men, their masculinity sharpened and distorted by the constant presence of a motorbike that becomes the play’s dominant symbol. The bike is not just a prop but a living extension of desire – its engine growling like Macbeth’s restless thoughts, its speed mirroring the headlong rush toward power and ruin. Shared between the two male performers, the motorbike erases conventional gender boundaries, turning Lady Macbeth’s manipulation into a performance of dominance learned, borrowed, and aggressively enacted. As they ride, circle, and rev the machine, the stage fills with noise, motion, and menace, suggesting that ambition is mechanical, fuel-driven, and impossible to stop once set in motion. In this stark, kinetic version, Shakespeare’s tragedy becomes a brutal meditation on how power, when stripped of traditional identities, still intoxicates, corrodes, and ultimately crashes – leaving only silence where the engine once screamed.

Director’s Note

The actor in me always starts from the body as my original training is dance. Similarly, as a director, my starting point and emphasis is always the body and bodies emoting in space. This dialogue of inner and outer spaces can be very rich in the context of this revisited Macbeth.

The inner chatter magnified and exposed by the outer noise

The twisted inner thoughts creating an outer labyrinth of fear and madness

The inner masks and fractured psyche manifesting as invisible ghosts of the past.
