Mahabhoj by Manu Bhandari was written following the Belchhi Kaand (Belchhi massacre) in 1977; initially written as a novel in 1979 and later adopted into a play. It is a story of how the death of a Dalit person gets politicized, playing with public’s sentiment and manipulation of situation to benefit authority. The play dives into the powerplay and politics, and is relevant even today. Possibly digging into the reality of who controls the world and how it is intently designed to keep common population away from their basic rights. Revelation of filth is what makes the play a bold and necessary state to comprehend.
